RA is a chronic, systemic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation, pain, stiffness, and destructive changes in the hands, feet, and other joints throughout the body. The anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (CCP) antibody is a diagnostic biomarker of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The higher the levels of anti-CCP antibody, the more likely it is to suggest RA.

Cyclic citrullinated peptide(CCP) antibodies are autoantibodies produced by rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patient that are directed against cyclic citrullinated peptides (CCP). Anti-CCP mainly consists of lgG and it can be used for the early diagnosis of RA due to its high sensitivity and specificity to the disease. CCP antibodies can be detected as early as several years before the typical clinical symptoms. Currently, it is believed that the sensitivity of Anti-CCP to RA diagnosis is 50%-78% with a specificity of 96%. The positive rate of early RA patients is 80%. The sensitivity and specificity of CCP is superior to RF. CCP antibody testing, along with RF, could improve the detection rate of RA. Meanwhile, radiological examination results show that patients with positive Anti-CCP have significantly more severe joint injuries than those with negative Anti-CCP. In addition, Anti-CCP is a sensitive indicator for differentiating invasive and non-invasive RA. Hhigh concentrations should suggest poor prognosis and high risk of joint erosion. Thus, it is an reliable indicator of observing patients condition and using of drugs. The CCP antibody test helps to diagnose RA and can be useful in identifying people with a more rapidly erosive form of the disease.
